Manufacturing process often involve work with metals which need to be process and shaped by various tools. The works with metals is often undertaken using high speed computerised machining tools. Oil and various metal working fluids are essential component of the manufacturing process. Exposure of employees to oil mist and metal working fluids (MWF) occurs during milling and machining, accessing internal parts of machinery, manual handling of work pieces and preparation and disposal of cooling liquids.
Sysco Environmental Ltd offers its client a comprehensive oil mist and metal working fluids exposure assessment program. Your organisation will benefit from our knowledge and experience with metal components manufacturing processes. We will carry out a robust testing program to evaluate your employee's exposure not only to the most obvious contaminants such as oils and metalworking fluids but also to potentially hazardous additives and biological contaminants.
Our standard oil mist and metal working fluids assessment program involves:
When cooling fluids are applied to the work piece to achieve the required lubrication rotation of the equipment causes formation of an Oil/MWF aerosol that can be inhaled by the machine operator. A variety of health effects can result from the exposure of machine operators to the additives present in water-mix MWFs and the chemical and biological contaminants produced by deterioration of the fluids during use. Most common effects are irritation of the upper respiratory tract, occupational asthma and a form of pulmonary fibrosis.
The inhalation hazards of MWF are caused by exposure to three agents: the neat or diluted MWF, microbial contaminants, and other chemical contaminants of the fluids.
Mineral oils, ethanolamine, diethanolamine, amine carboxylates, amine borates, tolytriazole salts, sulfonates, alkanolamides glycol ethers, phosphated compounds, biocides, triazines, oxazolidines, isothiazolones, alkanolamines and primary amino alcohols
Endotoxins produced by gram-negative bacteria, Mycobacterium sp. Mycobacterium immunogenum, Desulfovibrio desulfuricans, Pseudomonas sp, Legionella sp.
Rosemount Measurement Limited
We carried out a comprehensive site investigation and monitoring of a large number of operatives to soldering fumes and lead in sensor production facility. The customer benefited from our expertise in occupational hygiene monitoring. We have helped our customer to obtain the necessary quantification of the risk to help him to improve the site-wide exposure risk management process.
Her Majesty Revenue and Customs
Occupation exposure monitoring of operatives for diesel fumes, petrol fumes and laboratory reagents throughout the UK. The assessment provided a comprehensive understanding of employee's likely exposure levels and measures required to ensure they continuous Health and Safety.
Lift shaft maintenance operative's exposure assessment to solvents and lubricants during application in enclosed and poorly ventilated places. We have also carried out evaluation of effectiveness of additional area air filtration during the lubricant application process.
We carried out a site contamination evaluation in order to determine the levels of hazardous contaminants and the likely level of risk they present to the occupants and users. We specified the appropriate decontamination measures for the third-party contractor to ensure safety of the site personnel.
Tyco Fire Protection Products
We were appointed to provide a range of occupation exposure related services ranging from employees' exposure evaluation to solvents, welding fumes and isocyanates, workplace noise exposure assessment, operatives hand and arm vibration assessment to contaminants emissions evaluation during curing processes.
Tunstall Healthcare Ltd
We have completed a comprehensive evaluation of operatives' exposure to various types of soldering fumes in this production facility with the focus on maintenance tasks resulting in some odour issues. We have also provided the client with a comprehensive noise exposure evaluation report.
We have been appointed to carry out evaluation of likely employees' exposure levels to lead containing dust extended to full building contamination survey. He have help to quantify employees exposures and recommend the most appropriate measures to eliminate the contact with lead containing dust.
Burnetts Manufacturing Ltd
Employees exposure evaluation to rubber fumes, rubber dust and injection mould fumes and thermal decomposition products.
Satake Europe Ltd
We have delivered a comprehensive assessment of employees' exposures to various workplace contaminants present during various stages of the production processes.
Eriks Industrial Services
We carried out welding fumes, metal processing dust, metalworking fluids and volatiles exposure assessment in ERIKS service and maintenance centre. Workplacedust exposure was assessed by a variety of methods and have helped our customer successfully reduce the exposure to workplace contaminants.
